Debbie Luna
did not expect to see herself performing as a jazz singer.
When Luna entered the University of Arizona’s music program, she
auditioned for then professor emeritus of music, Louis Kashy.
Kashy encourage the young chanteuse to pursue her dream.
Daughter of a railroad lineman and
standards singing mother, Luna comes by her musical skills
naturally. Her mother introduced her to torch songs and by the
age of eight she was singing them, but it wasn't until suffering
from a series of tragedies that Luna found the true depth of her
amazing voice. With the
release
of her debut album, "Jazz...Better Than Anything," Luna has earned
the right to follow in the footsteps of Billie Holiday, Julie London
and other great jazz singers.
"I'm really glad I'm doing something with music. It's good for
everyone to tap into something where they find joy,” says Luna. Luna
has risen to the top of the Tucson Jazz scene with her debut album,
“Jazz…Better Than Anything.”
